The first thing to remember about learning finger cymbals as a dancer is that the way you practice becomes the way you will dance. When you close your hands, the cymbal on your thumbs should fit completely flat against the cymbals on your middle fingers. I like to sew my thumb cymbals with blue thread and my finger cymbals with green, since my thumbs are bigger than my middle fingers and they fit differently – other dancers sometimes use a bead or even sharpie or a dot of nail polish on the inside of each cymbal.įinger cymbals are worn on the thumb and middle finger of each hand, with the elastic somewhere between your last knuckle and the beginning of your fingernail. Pins and knots look terrible outside the cymbal, and if placed inside the cymbal will interfere with the sounds you make. I strongly recommend sewing, NOT pinning or knotting, your elastics in place. Before you begin using your finger cymbals, you probably will need to attach your elastics yourself.
